The Health Benefits of Drinking Wine

Many people have heard that a glass of wine a day is good for you. Many of these people don’t know why, but the use of wine as medicine goes back to almost the creation of civilization itself.

For thousands of years, people have been creating wine and drinking it without realizing that it is actually good for you until about 2200 BC when the Sumerians and Egyptians realized that it had curative properties. There are ancient Sumerian tablets and Egyptian papyrus that proclaim and describe the medicinal uses for wine. This means that wine is the worlds oldest documented medicine.

Wine has had a long history of medicinal uses including being prescribed for
everything from diarrhea and lethargy all the way up to and including aiding
in the birthing process. It was in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries
that people started changing their opinions about this drink and it became less
popular in the medical community.

It was just recently that scientists have once again found that wine can be proven to be more of a help than a hindrance when it comes to certain diseases. This is only true in cases of moderate consumption though. Heavy drinking of alcohol can cause severe and irreversible damages to the human body.

The most commonly mentioned health benefit of drinking wine in moderation is
that is helps the cardiovascular system. This is because alcohol can help to balance out the levels of bad cholesterol in your blood. The alcohol that is in wine also aids in thinning out the blood and helping it flow easier around any clots that may be present in your arteries. This effect is only temporary and lasts for only about one day and that is why some people say that a glass a day is good for you.

So remember that if you keep all things in moderation, especially wine, you
are going to liver a longer, happier, and much healthier life.
